The government today announced that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance.

A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and...

gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed!

I'm Back.

I'm Back! Posted by Hello

"I'm Back, Jack.
The Fog has lifted
The Earth has Shifted
It raised the Gifted.

You knew I'd be back
So pack your bone
And hit the road Jack
'Cause Daddy's home...

Thought I'd get dusty
Thought I'd get rusty
Thought I'd get rich and quit
Oh he must be
fat and ugly,
broke black and blue

But I'm trim, fit, rich and I'm back for round 2

Red white and the Pabst blue ribbon
Dead right, that's how I'm living
Giving you more than the frauds and fakes
They can't make the kind of music I make"

Thanks Kid. Couldn't have said it better myself. Still working, but time to get with it. The Election draws near and the gloves are coming off.

Stand by.

Kilabe (pronounced Killa-bee), is a good guy and a fellow Marine currently on In-Active Duty. While his opinions differ from mine, he will give you a good discussion without bullshit if you offer him the same consideration. On the other hand, wise off to him or make a stupid post and you're liable to get "stung".

So check in on him from time to time. He's got some good stuff going on over there and deserves to be heard, if only to be argued with, LOL!

An Early Valentine Wish...

Valentine's for Bin Laden

Little Melissa comes home from first grade and tells her father that they learned about the history of Valentine's Day.

"Since Valentine's Day is for a Christian saint and we're Jewish, "she asks, "will God get mad at me for giving someone a valentine?"

Melissa's father thinks a bit, then says "No, I don't think God would get mad. Who do you want to give a valentine to?"

"Osama Bin Laden," she says.

"Why Osama Bin Laden?" her father asks, in shock.

"Well," she says, "I thought that if a little American Jewish girl could have enough love to give Osama a valentine, he might start to think that maybe we're not all bad, and maybe start loving people a little."

"And if other kids saw what I did and sent valentines to Osama, he'd love everyone a lot. And then he'd start going all over the place to tell everyone how much he loved them and how he didn't hate anyone anymore."

Her father's heart swells with love and he looks at his daughter with new found pride. "Melissa, that's the most wonderful thing I've ever heard!"

"I know," Melissa says. "And once that gets him out in the open, the Marines could blow his ass away!

The "Right" Choice

Speaking at the Cincinnati Museum Center, the same site where George W. Bush made his case for war in 2002, John Kerry delivers a speech about Bush's wrong choices on Iraq.

Remarks on Bush’s Wrong Choices in Iraq That Have Left Us Without the Resources We Need at Home

Remarks of John Kerry
For Immediate Release

Cincinnati, OH - Yesterday in Iraq, we marked the most incalculable loss of all. Yesterday, we reached a tragic milestone. More than 1,000 of America’s sons and daughters gave their lives in service to our country. More than 1,000 sons and daughters, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters who will never come home to live the lives they dreamed of. We honor them, we pray for them and for their families, and we owe it to their memory and all our troops to do what’s right in Iraq.

I also want to speak directly to the more than 150,000 troops currently risking their lives as far away as Iraq and Afghanistan. Your country is proud of you. You are the most dedicated, capable military we’ve ever had. We are united as a nation in our support for you. We pledge to stand with your families as you stand on the front lines for ours. You are the best of America. And you perform magnificently every day. We thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

Twenty-three months ago, President Bush came here to ask the American people for our support. And he promised then to make the right choices when it came to sending young Americans to Iraq.

Here in Cincinnati, he said that if Congress approved the resolution giving him the authority to use force, it did not mean that military action would be “unavoidable”. But he chose not to give the weapons inspectors the time they needed to get the job done and give meaning to the words, going to war as a last resort.

Here in Cincinnati, he promised “to lead a coalition.” But he failed to build a broad, strong coalition of allies and he rushed to war without a plan to win the peace.

Here in Cincinnati, from this hall, on that night, he spoke to the nation, and promised: “If we have to act, we will take every precaution that is possible. We will plan carefully. We will act with the full power of the United States military. We will act with allies at our side and we will prevail.”

But then, George W. Bush made the wrong choices. He himself now admits he miscalculated in Iraq. In truth, his miscalculation was ignoring the advice that was given to him, including the best advice of America’s own military. When he didn’t like what he was hearing, he even fired the Army Chief of Staff. His miscalculation was going to war without taking every precaution and without giving the inspectors time. His miscalculation was going to war without planning carefully and without the allies we should have had. As a result, America has paid nearly 90% of the bill in Iraq. Contrast that with the Gulf War, where our allies paid 95% of the costs.

George W. Bush’s wrong choices have led America in the wrong direction in Iraq and left America without the resources we need here at home. The cost of the President’s go-it-alone policy in Iraq is now $200 billion and counting. $200 billion for Iraq, but they tell us we can’t afford after-school programs for our children. $200 billion for Iraq, but they tell us we can’t afford health care for our veterans. $200 billion for Iraq, but they tell us we can’t afford to keep the 100,000 new police we put on the streets during the 1990s.

Well we’re here today to tell them: they’re wrong. And it’s time to lead America in a new direction.

When it comes to Iraq, it’s not that I would have done one thing differently from the President, I would’ve done almost everything differently. I would have given the inspectors the time they needed before rushing to war. I would have built a genuine coalition of our allies around the world. I would’ve made sure that every soldier put in harm’s way had the equipment and body armor they needed. I would’ve listened to the senior military leaders of this country and the bipartisan advice of Congress. And, if there’s one thing I learned from my own service, I would never have gone to war without a plan to win the peace.

I would not have made the wrong choices that are forcing us to pay nearly the entire cost of this war – $200 billion that we’re not investing in education, health care, and job creation here at home.

$200 billion for going-it-alone in Iraq. That’s the wrong choice; that’s the wrong direction; and that’s the wrong leadership for America.

While we’re spending that $200 billion in Iraq, 8 million Americans are looking for work – 2 million more than when George W. Bush took office – and we’re told that we can’t afford to invest in job training and job creation here at home.

But for the Bush administration, helping Americans find a good job has never been the priority. The first time we’ve heard much about it at all was during this campaign. And at that convention in New York last week, they actually told us that outsourcing jobs was good for America. That shouldn’t be a surprise because that’s what they’ve been doing for four years – and if they get another chance, that’s exactly what they will do for four more years. That’s the wrong choice; that’s the wrong direction; and that’s the wrong leadership for America.

As president, I will set a new direction. I will close the tax loopholes that reward companies for shipping jobs overseas. Instead, we’re going to reward companies that create and keep good jobs here in the United States of America.

Because of this President’s wrong choices, we’re spending $200 billion in Iraq while the costs of health care have gone through the roof and we’re told we don’t have the resources to make health care affordable and available for all Americans. Today, 45 million Americans have no health insurance at all – 5 million more than the day George W. Bush took office.

And after four years of no action, no concern, and hardly a mention of those struggling to afford health care, the President finally told us last week that he actually had a plan. Well, we only had to wait twenty-four hours to find out what that was. Because the very next day he raised Medicare premiums 17 percent – the biggest increase in Medicare premiums in the history of that program. And here’s the kicker – a lot of that money is nothing more than a windfall to the insurance companies and HMOs. They’re charging 17% more for Medicare while making America pay $200 billion for a go-it-alone policy in Iraq. That’s the wrong choice; that’s the wrong direction; and that’s the wrong leadership for America.

As President, I will set a new direction. George W. Bush believes when it comes to health care, the big drug companies come first, the insurance companies come second, and you come last. Well, I’m going to put you first. Our plan will take on the waste and greed in the health care system and save the average family up to $1000 a year on their premiums. Our plan will help small businesses deal with the most expensive cases. Our plan will cover all children. When I am president, America will stop being the only advanced nation in the world which fails to understand that health care is not a privilege for the wealthy, the connected, and the elected, it is a right for all Americans.

Because of George W. Bush’s wrong choices, we’re spending $200 billion in Iraq while we’re running up deficits that threaten Social Security. In fact, they’re raiding the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for their mistakes in Iraq. At that convention in New York last week, George Bush said that he actually had a new idea. And you know what it was? The bad, old idea of privatizing social security -- and cutting your benefits. That’s the wrong choice; that’s the wrong direction; and that’s the wrong leadership for America.

As President, I will not privatize Social Security. I will not cut benefits. I will not raise the retirement age. Because when you’ve worked for a lifetime, America owes you what you’ve earned.

And because of this President’s wrong choices, we’re spending $200 billion in Iraq instead of investing in making America energy independent. George W. Bush’s energy policy is to trust the big oil companies and the Saudis. In fact, a national news magazine just reported that a senior member of the Saudi Royal family said that as far as they’re concerned, in the U.S. Presidential election, “It’s Bush all the way.” I want an America that relies on its own ingenuity and innovation, not the Saudi Royal Family.

We’re going to invest in technology and the vehicles of the future, so that no young American will ever be held hostage to our dependence on oil from the Middle East. That’s the right choice; that’s the right direction; and that’s the right leadership for America.

Because of this President’s wrong choices, we’re spending $200 billion in Iraq while we’re told that we can’t afford to do everything that we should for homeland security. I believe it’s wrong to be opening firehouses in Baghdad and closing them down in the United States of America. It’s wrong to cut money for our first responders. It’s wrong to let 95% of the cargo that comes into this country get by without ever being physically inspected. That’s the wrong choice; that’s the wrong direction; and that’s the wrong leadership for America.

As President, I will set a new direction. We’re going to defend this country here at home. We’re going to do all we possibly can to protect it from another terrorist attack. And we’re going to make homeland security a priority, not a political slogan.

My friends, today we are bearing the cost of the war in Iraq almost alone – $200 billion and counting.

Nearly two years after George W. Bush spoke to the nation from this very place, we know how wrong his choices were. He says he “miscalculated.” He calls Iraq a “catastrophic success.” But a glance at the front pages or a look at the nightly news shows the hard reality: Rising instability. Spreading violence. Growing extremism. Havens for terrorists that weren’t there before. And today, even the Pentagon admits, Entire regions of Iraq are controlled by insurgents and terrorists.

I call this course a catastrophic choice that has cost us $200 billion because we went it alone, and we’ve paid an even more unbearable price in young American lives.

We need a new direction. I know what we need to do in Iraq. We need to bring our allies to our side, share the burdens, reduce the cost to American taxpayers, and reduce the risk to American soldiers. We need to train Iraqi military and police – we need to train them more rapidly, more effectively, and in greater numbers to take over the job of protecting their own country. That's what I’ll do as Commander-in-Chief – because that’s the right way to get the job done and bring our troops home.

You know, the President said one thing in his convention speech that’s true. He said we all need to challenge the soft bigotry of low expectations. But you know, it’s George W. Bush who has set low expectations -- and met them. He doesn’t believe that America can be strong in the world while we also make progress here at home. He believes we have to choose one or the other. That’s a false choice – and I reject it. I believe we can lead in the world and lead America to greater progress and prosperity than we’ve ever known before.

Half a century ago, from here in Union Terminal, thousands of soldiers waved one last goodbye to their families before heading off to the Second World War. In that war, their bravery, and leaders who made the right choices, brought victory over tyranny and prosperity here at home.

When I’m president, America will once again stand up to our enemies without destroying or denying our best hopes here at home. We will strengthen our military to meet new threats and we will build and lead strong alliances. We will build a stronger America, with good jobs, better wages, health care for all, and energy independence. With the right choices and the right leadership, we will set a new direction for America. We will build an America stronger at home and respected in the world. As Franklin Roosevelt once said, “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.” Well, I believe there are no limits for tomorrow. But we need to make the right choices today. With your help, we will restore the true greatness of our nation and set a new direction for our future.

Thank you, God bless you, and God Bless America.

That's why I like John Kerry.

Paul Gill, New York City Firefighter

Miss you, Bro... Posted by Hello

Three years ago today one of the finest men I have ever known was murdered by Islamo-terrorists in New York City. Paul Gill was my friend. I remember the day he walked into our shop. He had flames tattooed up and down his arms, kind of like what you might expect to see on a '57 Chevy Bel Air, you know, a real Hot Rod. Paul was a real Hot Rod. He was a New York City Firefighter and like many of his Brother's, he worked other jobs on his off days. For all the hoopla about New York's Bravest, and probably everywhere-else, Paul needed to work other jobs to make ends meet. What does that tell you about how much we appreciate those who risk their lives for us on a daily basis?

Anyway, I came to know Paul after a period of time. I took him under my wing and showed him the ropes of the make believe world of Motion Pictures. Paul fit right in. He was smart, talented, with a great work ethic. He hit it off with this old Marine and we became friends. I often went to the Firehouse with him and hung out with the guys, watching TV and shooting the breeze as guys often do. We used to go to a little Brazillian Restaurant, Chateau Brazil, after work and hit a few cold ones. The days Paul worked at the Firehouse, I would stop by and hang for a while. His fellow Firefighters were always amazed at the fact that Paul was a good enough carpenter to make it in the crazy world of TV and Movies. They shouldn't have been.

Paul was the kind of guy who was good at anything he tried. He was dedicated. He paid attention. He wanted to learn. He took personal pride in everything he did. He never wanted to let us down or make excuses for sloppy or poor workmanship.

I remember when he came in one day after serving his tour with the Fire Department. He was very excited. I asked him what the happy occassion was and he told me that he had gone on a Rescue Call and had actually saved a guy's life. It was the happiest I had ever seen him. Paul was a Life-saver, not a Life-taker.

But on September 11, 2001, Paul's life was taken. He had been transfered back to his home station at 48th & 8th Avenue, the Pride of Midtown and when the planes hit the Trade Towers he was there. No movie, no make believe. No special effects. Not this time. Paul Gill died doing what made him happiest - trying to save other people's lives.

And Paul, you never let us down. We are proud of you. And we miss you terribly.

Semper Fidelis, Brother, for you were, and are, and will always be, "Always Faithfull" We will never forget you.

Dear Mr. Kerry,

This week we were subject to the Republican National Convention, where we watched speaker after speaker kick sand in your face. Granted, you responded shortly after Bush's speech, but Fox News aired only four minutes of your response.

We listened to the sewage coming forth from the Republicans, and gagged every time an already defunct Kerry myth again raised it's ugly head. We saw the Republican Delegates swiftly morph into the Hunters from the island of The Lord of the Flies.

We watched, and we knew, as each derogatory comment slithered out of Zell Miller, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dick Cheney, and the rest, that their message was hatred for you, and by extension, for us, and the conviction of fear... that George W. Bush and only George W. Bush could keep us safe from the scourge of terrorism... that without George W Bush's Doctrine of perpetual war with shadows, we would live in perpetual danger.

We cringed every time one of them took the tragedy and personal loss that was 911 and held it high to be admired, like some trophy, for their chickenhawk 'warrior' president, as if it were some feather in his cap that he had earned.

We fumed every time they claimed ownership and specific rights to America with the guttural chant "U S A! U S A! U S A!", as if an administration with more than it's share of unabashed, yet arrogant draft dodgers could ever take possession of our home, thereby turning it from the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave into the land of surveillance and the home of the chickenhawk.

We knew, as we listened, that the attacks were there rather than anything of substance because the Republicans have nothing of substance to offer America. We knew that the vicious myths they perpetuated were exaggerated, if not patently false, and we knew that George W. Bush was the one unfit to be Commander-in-Chief.

We also knew that these were the so-called 'moderate' Republicans, the ones that the Republican Party let out of their cages without a leash or a muzzle. We therefore also knew that the full hatred and contempt, the full polarizing power of the Religious Right was tucked away in a safe zone somewhere, hinted at only by two freedom sucking proposed amendments to our Constitution.

But now the Republican hate fest is over. At this writing there are 59 days until the election. We are strong Mr. Kerry. We are solid behind you. We know the truth that these Hunter mentalities are trying to besmirch, and we are ready to take this to the mat.

But...

We need you, Mr. Kerry. We need you to put your concerns for the 'swing voter' in your back pocket and take up our concerns. We need you to come out fighting, Mr. Kerry... bare knuckled, angry.

We are aware that George W. Bush has refused to debate you... we are aware that he has accepted only three debates, each with pre-defined questions, and is now, just as he did in 1968, trying to avoid any real confrontation. We are aware that in a fair and credible debate you would make him the monkey we all know he is. We call on you to take the campaign to him, then...

Lt. Kerry... it's time to turn your swift boat into the attack...

Purple Heart BAND-AIDS? Are you kidding me?

What next? Posted by Hello

What next? I'll tell you what next! How any Republican can support this is beyond me! How any Republican can think this is in the least bit funny makes me want to puke! Folks, these are the people asking YOUR sons and daughters to fight their War For Corporate Profits in Iraq! Is this what they think of the almost 7,000 Americans wounded in Iraq? Yeah, I guess so.

It's time to get rid of this bunch of hypocritical chickenhawks!

The following post is copied directly from Any Which Way in it's entirety, including the intro by Ruthalla. She has summed it up better than I could. (For more posts like this, visit Any Which Way). Now, excuse me while I puke.

The Republican Convention is finally over, but the disrespect they showed towards Veterans is lasting.

In a disgusting mockery of wounded Veterans, the delegates donned band-aids adorned with a purple heart.

This attitude is reflective of the entire Bush administration's treatment of Veterans today.

Can current Purple Heart winners from Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom expect the same disregard should they ever oppose the Bush Doctrine?

While the delegates may have claimed to be mocking Kerry, a statement of political impotence in itself, by minimizing any Purple Heart, they minimize them all.

After all, were the Democrats to attempt such theatrical foolishness, they would all have to paint white powder under their noses

...ruth

from the article:

When did it become acceptable in America for our Purple Hearts to be used as political stunt to garner votes? When did veterans wounded in war become fair game for ridicule? When did slight wounds become props for political advantage? And this from Republicans (few of whom served in our military, and fewer who were wounded in war) who support a president who never went to a war that he strongly supported but took actions to avoid. This reeks of hypocrisy, and I am outraged.

Republicans Insult Wounded Veterans

A wounded combat veteran awarded the Purple Heart is outraged that Republicans have mocked his Purple Heart medal and dishonored all Americans wounded in war.

By Stewart Nusbaumer

New York, New York--The Purple Heart medal was established by George Washington in 1782 to honor soldiers wounded in the Revolutionary War. The sole criterion for being awarded this decoration is being wounded in war by the enemy. The Purple Heart honors not heroism, then, but personal sacrifice. It is the “grunts” badge recognizing sacrifice of body for your country, the democratic award that honors all troops equally for their combat wounds. That is the way George Washington wanted it.

Yet, on the floor of the Republican National Convention, Republican delegates proudly sported band-aids with little purple hearts in an attempt to diminish the significance of John Kerry’s military record and his three Purple Hearts--which stand in stark, embarrassing contrast to George Bush’s avoidance of the Vietnam War and his “yellow heart.”

The Associated Press reported: “The bandages were handed out by Morton Blackwell, a longtime GOP activist from Virginia, with the message: ‘It was just a self-inflicted scratch, but you see I got a Purple Heart for it.’”

These Republicans want Americans to believe John Kerry’s wounds were not serious enough to be taken seriously. Many military veterans resent their mocking of a Purple Heart recipitant and his decorations, charging the Republicans' behavior is reprehensible.

“This symbol [Purple Heart] is a very moving one,” said Korean War veteran and Congressman Charles Rangel. “In many of the homes of the survivors that’s all they have to remember their loved ones. Some survivors can’t see and some can’t walk. All they ask is a little dignity.”

According to retired Gen. Merrill McPeak, former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, 3,700 Purple Hearts have been awarded in Iraq. Are Republicans mocking all 3,700 of our servicemen and women wounded in Iraq? Or only those they determine were not sufficiently wounded?

According to this former Marine grunt, how dare they laugh at my Purple Heart?

George Washington was correct: a wound is a wound, and that entitles one to the award. The Purple Heart is not about the depth of the wound, not about the wound’s length, not about the quantity of blood that came from the wound. This decoration recognizes the personal sacrifice of our troops without regard to the severity or the nature of the wound. This has been the official position of the U.S. military since the days of George Washington, and this is the correct position today.

The fact is, the Republican Party is out of control. Vicious and hateful, it is disrespectful and desperate, a political party that is now attacking America’s wounded veterans. And the leadership of this Party remains quiet, behind the scenes it actively works to trash our veterans. First they attacked John McCain, claiming the former POW was unfit to be President because he had been a prisoner in Vietnam; then they insisted that Max Cleland, who lost three limbs on the battlefield in Vietnam, did not sacrifice for his country; then they smeared John Kerry’s military service and dismissed his sacrifices for America. Now, Republicans are insulting all veterans who are Purple Heart recipients, every American wounded in a war.

Never could I have imagined this happening in America. Never have I witnessed antiwar demonstrators insulting military veterans as these so-called patriotic Republicans are insulting our wounded veterans. Never could I have imagined.
