Hey Liz, STFU!

Outrageous... Bimbette, Liz Cheney, who was noticeably quiet as her Father's administration did everything it could to drive Gay men and women back into the closet, and straight women back to the "hanger", has no problem defending torture and Gitmo as "American Ideals". Is this chick confused, or what?

President Obama's speech accepting the Nobel Peace Prize this past week has won unlikely plaudits from conservatives, who say he injected a bit of militaristic realism into a committee founded on the lofty notion of world peace. But not everyone is applauding. Liz Chen...

Get 'em While They're Hot!!!

Dear MoveOn member,

Have you ordered your free "Victory" sticker yet? We've already given away close to 2 million of them and I wanted to make sure you had a chance to order one.

These stickers are a really special way to commemorate this moment—they're designed by ground-breaking artist, Shepard Fairey, the same artist who designed the iconic "Hope" image of Obama. They're our small way of saying "Thanks!" for everything you did to make this moment in history possible.

Click below to order your free sticker now:

http://pol.moveon.org/shepstickers/?id=15084-8552455-p7gY8Ex&t=6

And please forward this to any other Obama supporters you know. So many people had a hand in this amazing victory, and we want to thank them all—and give them a sticker that'll remind them of it every day :-).

Thanks for all you do, and congratulations!

Sarah...Who? Yeah, right.

Sarah Palin & John McCain, Who caught who?

Let's check in with a couple of "Good Ole Boyz" and see if they can shed a little light on this...

Oooookay...

Gee, in spite of her "hotness", guess I'm still gonna have to vote for the Obama/Biden ticket.

And in case you missed it, here's Barack's acceptance speech, in full, without interruption. He may not be as "hot", (to me anyway), as "Sarah Barracuda", but he doesn't need to be...see he actually has a "plan" for America.

Enjoy!

Help Moveon.Org Fight McCain on MTV and Comedy Central

I recieved an e-mail from Moveon today and I thought I should pass on a wonderful opportunity to counter the Always Wrong Right's attempts to smear and discredit Barack Obama on MTV.

I know it must seem like every post I make lately is asking for money or time for one progressive cause or another. The fact is, the Always Wrong Right is taking nothing for granted. They believe that with the proper propaganda, they can win this Presidential Election. If we become too confident, too complacent, we could find ourselves faced with four more years of war, recession, lost jobs and lies and broken promises - in other words, a continuation of the policies that have brought our once great nation to it's knees, the policies of Geroge Walker Bush.

It is critical that we do all that we can too ensure that Barack Obama wins the Presidential Election. We must also work hard to get as many Progressives elected to public office as well. Notice, I didn't say Democrats. There are way too many DINO's, (Democrats In Name Only), and we must replace them with dedicated individuals who are committed to the principles outlined in the Consitution. We cannot afford to let up for one minute, or we may face our worst nightmare come January 20, 2009.

So please take a look at the ad below. If you like it and can afford it, click the link below and help get it on the air. It is up to us, the people, to take back our government and make it, once again, a Government of the People, by the People and For the People.

d.

From the e-mail:

Dear MoveOn member,

MTV just started accepting political ads. And the first political ad that millions of young people will see is a negative attack on Barack Obama—saying he's "worse than a flip-flopper" and accusing him of no longer being against the war.1 It's outrageous.

The Republicans' strategy is clear: kill the hope that's brought millions of new young voters out of the woodwork.

We can't let that happen. And as it turns out, we've got a funny, positive, hopeful way to fight back.

The "funniest ad" award winner in our Obama in 30 Seconds contest is a perfect counterpoint to the cynicism-mongering ad on MTV. Plus, it was made by actor (and MoveOn member) Rider Strong.

We just found out that we can run this ad on MTV and Comedy Central (as their first political ad ever) for $150,000. If 6000 of us contribute $25, we can do it. Can you check out the ad below—and if you like it, will you chip in to get it on the air?

Brain On Hope

Thanks for all you do.

Fox News, Mouthpiece of the Always Wrong Right

Looks like the Always Wrong Right-wing minions at Fox News are at it again. Under the guise of delivering "news", Fox has been insidiously taking pot-shots at Barack and Michelle Obama.

Let's put an end to this now.

d.

Dear MoveOn member,

Right now, FOX is trying to paint Barack Obama as foreign, un-American, suspicious, and scary. They're trying to send Americans the message that our country's first viable black candidate for President is not "one of us."

We've seen this before from FOX. They won't stop until it becomes too painful to continue—until the public calls them out and advertisers start getting worried.

Now is the time to draw a line in the sand by putting FOX on notice that their behavior won't be tolerated. Nearly 100,000 Americans have already expressed their outrage. Can you express yours by adding your name to this message?

"FOX must stop injecting racism, prejudice, and fear into our political dialogue. We intend to hold FOX, its advertisers, and its personalities accountable for FOX's attempts to smear the Obamas."

FOX's longtime pattern of smearing Obama and the black community is well documented.1 But the outrageous moments have increased in the last month.

First, a paid FOX commentator accidentally confused "Obama" with "Osama" and then joked on the air about killing Obama.2 Next, a FOX anchor said a playful fist bump by Barack and Michelle Obama could be a "terrorist fist jab."3 And then, FOX called Michelle Obama "Obama's baby mama"—slang for an unmarried mother of a man's child, and a clear attempt to associate the Obamas with negative stereotypes about black people.4

If you know others who'd find FOX's recent actions despicable, please ask them to sign the petition too. The more people who sign, the bigger our impact will be.

Our friends at ColorOfChange.org—an online advocacy group focused on the issues of importance to the black community—are leading this charge. They have already collected nearly 100,000 names to deliver as a group to FOX's headquarters (in front of other media cameras, so FOX feels more heat). Here's how they describe the situation:

After each of the incidents mentioned [above], FOX issued some form of weak apology. But what does it mean when you slap someone in the face, apologize the next day, then slap them again? It means the apology is meaningless.

Now is the time to call out FOX for these attacks and their fake apologies. The first stop is FOX. Next will be their advertisers and the FCC. If we don't push back now, we will see more of the same from now until November. Please join us to demand that FOX answer for its behavior:

Add your name to this important cause by clicking here—then tell your friends:

Thanks for all you do.

Department of Justice Corrupted by Bush Administration

Proof is emerging that the Bush Administration has done everything in it's power to pervert the Department of Justice by politically profiling candidates for the position of Attorneys General. This is despicable and shows how far the Always Wrong Right will go to maintain their death grip on our country. Talk about shredding the constitution! Please copy the video below and post it since Keith Olbermann seems to be the only one, (as usual), in the main stream media willing to talk about it. Anyone who thinks that the fight to regain our America will be easy needs to watch it.

Now pardon me while I go puke.

d.

Post Script: The above makes it clear once and for all, (at least to me), that this Administration is neither bumbling nor incompetent, but rather, a Mafia-like family, bent on controlling our nation for their own gains, in a cold, calculating way. They will use any means possible to maintain this control and protect their asses. Face it, we have been taken over by Facists, and anyone who doesn't think so has their head up their ass.

This makes the upcoming Presidential Election more important than ever. With the collapse of our Democratic led Congress on Telecom Immunity, Impeachment, the Plame "incident" and other vital issues, we may never know how far reaching their crimes are, but a clean sweep in November, DINO's (Dems In Name Only), as well as Republi-cons, would be a great start.

OOHRAH For Harry! Britain's Prince Harry in Afghanistan

Britain's Prince Harry in Afghanistan

By JILL LAWLESS, AP

LONDON Prince Harry has been serving on the front line in Afghanistan with the British Army, calling in airstrikes on Taliban positions and going out on foot patrols, the Ministry of Defense announced Thursday.

Officials said the prince, a lieutenant in the Blues and Royals regiment, was still deployed in the country.

"His conduct on operations in Afghanistan has been exemplary," said the head of the army, Gen. Richard Dannatt. "He has been fully involved in operations and has run the same risks as everyone else in his battle group."

Harry, who is third in line to the throne, has been in Afghanistan since December.

(In the photo, Britain's Prince Harry, strapped and ready, Walks the Walk)

The planned deployment had been disclosed to reporters, with no specific date, and was not reported previously under a pool agreement between the Ministry of Defense and all major news organizations operating in Britain, including The Associated Press. The news blackout was intended to reduce the risk to the prince and his regiment.

The news embargo was broken, however, after reports of the prince's deployment were leaked by an Australian magazine and a German newspaper, and then reported on a U.S. Web site, the Drudge Report.

Dannatt, the military commander, said he was "very disappointed" that the story had leaked.

Harry, 23, has been deployed in the restive Helmand province for 10 weeks, where most of the 7,800 British troops in Afghanistan are based, according to the military's statement.

In a recorded interview, Harry said he was happy to be standing shoulder-to- shoulder with his colleagues.

"It's nice just to be here with all the guys and just mucking in as one of the lads," said Harry, who had expressed bitter disappointment when he was banned from going to Iraq with his battalion last year. Army chiefs said publicity surrounding his deployment could put him and his unit at risk.

Pooled video footage of Harry in Afghanistan showed the prince dressed in camouflage fatigues patrolling arid and dusty terrain and firing a machine gun.

Harry graduated from Sandhurst military academy in 2006 and trained as a tank commander. After the decision not to send him to Iraq, he retrained as a battlefield air controller, the job he has been filling in Afghanistan.

...or his glorious, well behaved, Christian raised, morally upright offspring.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Born to Royalty, this man could have easily avoided this. Instead he chose to be with his"lads", as he calls them. That makes him a real man in my eyes, compared to our Chickenhawk Pres-idiot, who used his Daddy's influence to avoid any meaningful service in the Armed Forces of the United States.

Well done, Your Highness, this old Devil Dog sends a hearty OOH-fuckin'-RAH your way, Sir.

Show them how to Walk the Walk, not just Talk the Talk!

Semper Fidelis Sir!

I am really, really pissed...

And I looked, and behold, a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and hell followed with him. And power was given to them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Revelation 6:8

From Alternate Brain:

"I've written a couple times about war but I think people forget what it's all about. First off, I think you should read the article Gord posted on yesterday. I left a comment there:

We're learning the same way the Russians and the British did. We shoulda just gone in and killed 'em all.

And thinking about it, I think I should explain.

According to the narrative we've heard since 11 September 2001, the nation of Afghanistan harbored Osama bin Laden and facilitated the attacks on the US. Fine. Why did we go in there saying 'we'll take out the Taliban, but we're gonna go over there and win hearts and minds'?

Let me explain something. You don't go to war worrying about winning hearts and minds. You go to war to break the enemy, pound him far enough so he surrenders. War is ugly, dirty, and a last resort but if you're gonna go, you have to go ugly and dirty. Why in Hell do you think they call it 'war'?

We should have blown Afghanistan to shit, period..."

Fixer

Go read the articles linked to in the above quote and you will understand what's got my knickers in such a fucking twist.

Fixer is right.

The United States Marine Corps has requested that they be withdrawn from Iraq and deployed in Afghanistan, (
Marines Press to Remove Their Forces From Iraq, New York Times ). The only reason I can see for not doing this would be to avoid killing Bin Laden and totally destroying the Taliban and Al Queda.

It's time to turn loose the Dogs of War on Bin Laden and Afghanistan! Else all of our efforts, all of our losses, will have been in vain!

Let's do this right people, and finish it once and for all!

d.

Below is a comment I posted at the Brain. I am including it here as an addendum of sorts.

Listen, the last time we fought a war to win it was 60 fucking years ago and ended when we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Anybody sorry about that? I sure as shit ain't! I got relatives beneath the sea at Pearl Harbor and when they apologize for that and Bataan, then maybe I'll reconsider.

Anybody sorry we turned Dresden into a blast furnace? How about Berlin? Lots of "collateral damage". It's called "winning".

Sure 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi's and if I had my way they would pay dearly for that. Shit, Bush's boy Baker defended them against lawsuits by those who lost people in the Trade Towers. The fact remains tho, that Bin Laden was based in Afghanistan, had the support of the Taliban, ran training camps there for the hijackers and other operatives and has now reconstituted Al Queda and is supposedly stronger than ever. And where the fuck do you think he is? Brooklyn?

Afghanistan.

And what do we have there, at the tip of the spear, in the hottest AO in the country?

One company of Regular Army! One!

Let's do this right. Pull the troops out of Iraq and cut the Marines loose in Afghanistan. And if we have to go into Pakistan to get this prick, so be it.

That was the fucking mission, wasn't it?

I suggest that everyone read the entire article, then post your comments.

Look, I'm all for peace but I am not anti-war, just anti-stupid, illegal war.

d.

Update! A Different Point of View

From House of The Rising Sons:

Can't kill everybody

After reading this account of our soldiers in Afghanistan, I am reminded that the situation there is no less fucked up than in Iraq.

Fixer at Alternate Brain , who like me, is not one to mince words,
posts today that we could have already won in Afghanistan if we would've have been more merciless. I understand the sentiment, really I do, and I always felt that Afghanistan was different from Iraq. I believed they deserved it. Why? Because Osama was there right? He was in charge, with the Taliban, right? Well, whatever. But also, I thought Afghanistan deserved what they got because, if nothing else, they seemed to be celebrating the 9-11 attacks. So, fuck em, right? But years past that knee jerk kill em all feeling- the one that also told me that sending our troops there was justified- I don't seem to believe my simple minded revenge horseshit anymore. Alternate Brain is one of my favorite spots- and I respect Fixer and his opinion on this matter, even though I disagree. He certainly isn't some neocon gasbag postulating emptily on this matter. It's understandable to wish "the enemy" was all dead so our soldiers could come home and get some relief from the never-ending hell that the Republican party has inflicted on them.

Chelsea Clinton, Pimped Out???

Chelsea Clinton speaks to supporters during a campaign stop for her mother, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., Friday Feb. 8, 2008 in Omaha, Neb. (AP Photo/Dave Weaver)

The Always Wrong Right is at it again, only this time they have decided to attack Hillary Clinton's daughter.

In a conference call with reporters, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson on Friday excoriated MSNBC's David Shuster for suggesting the Clinton campaign had "pimped out" 27-year old Chelsea by having her place phone calls to celebrities and Democratic Party "superdelegates" on her mother's behalf.

Yes, the trolls are at it again.

Realizing they have no chance of defeating either Hillary or Obama, they have fired the opening rounds in what will certainly be another disgusting, distasteful campaign on their part by attacking the only vulnerable target in sight, Chelsea Clinton. To wit:

Wolfson pointed to what he called a pattern of tasteless comments by MSNBC anchors about the Clinton campaign. Weeks ago, "Hardball" host Chris Matthews apologized to the former first lady after suggesting her political career had been made possible by her husband's philandering.

The entire article appears here.

Frankly, I'm not a Hillary supporter.
I was an Edwards man. In this case it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you support Hillary or not. It doesn't matter if you think she is "Bush Lite" or the "Second Coming". What matters is that the Right Wing Slime Slingers have started up once again and this time we must nip it in the bud.

Pimped out? Pimped out? This is how the party of good Christian, Family Values plans to win support for their own lame candidates? By smearing and besmirching the reputation of their opponents daughter? Good God! What if Obama is the candidate? Can you imagine the racial slurs and innuendoes we have to look forward to?

This must stop right here, right now.

It is up to us to let MSNBC know that this type of character assassination will not be tolerated. We will no longer sit by while innocent people are swift-boated by right wing zealots with the collective morality of a slug!

Here's the clip of Shuster:

Now the clip of Matthews:

Enough people. I once did a post here that declared that the United States Marines are America's Attack Dogs, (When Good Marines Go Bad). It's time I remembered that. It's time to bite back!

Call, write or e-mail MSNBC and tell them you will not put up with sleezy character attacks like these. Don't let the Always Wrong Right swift-boat another Progressive candidate! Let's nip this in the bud!

By email: Letters To MSNBC.com

By snailmail:
NBC News
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, N.Y. 10112

By telephone: 212-315-9016

Let's get to work API! It's time to show them that we know how to play "Hardball" too!

Now, where's my bat?

d.

This is a copy of the e-mail I sent to MSNBC. Feel free to make it your own.

I am extremely disgusted with the behavior of two of your supposed "journalists", David Shuster and Chris Matthews, regarding the Hillary Clinton campaign. While I have come to expect this type of "journalism" from Fox News, I have long believed that MSNBC held itself and it's employees to higher standards. Apparently, I was wrong.

Should MSNBC continue to allow yellow journalism of this type to infect it's airwaves I will have no choice but to place it in the same category as Fox News and restrict my viewing to CNN.

Believe it or not, we who comprise your audience know the difference between real reporting and infotainment. We tune to you for "News" not entertainment. I strongly suggest that you review your standards and take whatever actions you need to insure that this type of character assassination doesn't occur on your airwaves again.

Sincerely,

Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

Got this in an e-mail from my Father today. I've been so busy with the Writer's Strike I almost forgot the main reason I blog here - to expose the Republi-cons for the Corporate shills that they are and to defeat them at every turn!

I have to admit that my initial preoccupation with the strike was due to the fact that my livelihood is tied to the outcome.
It has, however, become increasing clear to me that this strike is actually a microcosm of what is happening to "Labor" in every part of the United States, as the Corporations, aided and abetted by the Bush Administration, continues to wage war against Unions and the working family in general.
Oh you can have a job alright, but you'll work for what we'll pay you when we want you to work. And benefits? That's un-American! Aren't we all cut from that "Daniel Boone" cloth that rewards rugged individualism?

Well, it's time once again to take on the Always Wrong Right. So with that in mind, I give you...

Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

* Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush’s daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion.

* Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

* The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq.

* A woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

* Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

* The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans’ benefits and combat pay.

* If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won’t have sex.

* A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

* Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

* HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

* Global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

* A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense.

* A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

* Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

* The public has a right to know about Hillary’s cattle trades, but George Bush’s driving record is none of our business.

* Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you’re a conservative radio host. Then it’s an illness, and you need our prayers for your recovery.

* You support states’ rights, which means Attorney General John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.

* What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the ’80s is irrelevant.

Thanks Dad!

Defeat Mitch McConnell

Dear VoteVets.org Supporter,

How badly do you want to send Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, packing? Pretty bad, right? Now, how badly would you love to see an Iraq War Marine be the guy who takes McConnell's place? If you're like me, the very idea of that has you pretty pumped.

Well, I have some good news for you. Lt. Col. Andrew Horne (Ret.), a Marine who served in both the current war in Iraq and Desert Storm, has launched his campaign to beat Mitch McConnell and take this government and country back for the people. The Louisville Courier-Journal wrote of the promise Andrew holds in an editorial this weekend, saying, "Mr. Horne is a serious man, and his candidacy should be taken seriously," and "He would be a credible alternative to the incumbent."

CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT ANDREW HORNE IN HIS RACE TO BEAT MITCH MCCONNELL

While Andrew holds great promise for us this cycle, he cannot do this without your financial help. Mitch McConnell is one of the best-funded politicians in 2008, because of the support he gets from his corporate buddies. So, what's all that special interest money gotten us? Let's take just a small walk through the record of Mitch McConnell (Warning: Hold your nose):

  • He led the filibuster of the Webb-Hagel "Dwell Time" amendment that would have given our exhausted troops as much time at home as in the field.
  • He led the all-night filibuster of legislation that would have set us on a real change of course in Iraq, that would have allowed us to give Iraqis more responsibility, while freeing U.S. forces to take on the real threat to America -- al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
  • He consistently worked his side of the aisle against the same veterans he's been fighting tooth and nail to keep in Iraq, beating back amendments to ensure a funding stream for veterans' health care, increase Veterans' medical services by closing corporate tax loopholes, and guarantee full-funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • And, most recently, he callously quipped that we ought not feel too bad about those who died in Iraq, because, afterall, "remember, these are not draftees, these are full-time professional soldiers."

CLICK HERE TO TAKE DOWN MITCH MCCONNELL AND SUPPORT THE TROOPS

We all know these issues are going to come up in McConnell's campaign. When they do, at the debate, who do you want on the stage with McConnell to challenge him face-to-face? A politician, or a genuine patriot who served our nation in Iraq? As Andrew says, "Simply put, while Mitch McConnell carries George Bush's water on Iraq, I carried a rifle in Iraq."

That's the type of opponent that Mitch McConnell fears the most, but this can only come to pass if you get into the fight. That's why today, I'm proud to say VoteVets.org PAC endorses Andrew Horne for Senate, and why I am asking you to please give him your support.

Sincerely,

Jon Soltz
Iraq War Veteran
Chairman, VoteVets.org

P.S. The above links will take you to Andrew's donation page. If you're in Kentucky and are interested in helping his campaign, or just want to find out more, you can go to his website - www.AndrewHorne.org
