First Annual No Talent Pageant

Baja Canada, Seattle:

"Naughty or Nice?

Either way, SHOW US YOUR SHOES!

Just when public policy was starting to really put a damper on the holidays, we have the Donald and the O'Donnell to distract. And even better, a Big Tent Event over at the Gay Agenda!"

(deuddersun displaying his no talent Rapping technique)

Yes Brothers & Sistas! It's the First Annual No Talent Pageant hosted by the Gay Agenda and Emcee'd by our very own meldonna, of Baja Canada, Seattle!

Now I'm not sure what the hell the whole thing is about, I seem to remember reading that you don't have to be Gay, but it helps, there's lots of Cocktail Lezbins, (which sounds kinda good to me), and stuff is gonna be snorted along with 151 proof Jello shots with the Bush Twins.

There's also this thing where you enter your shoes, (I'm not showing mine here, I'll save that for the actual contest - I'm in it to win it - Mags! Where's that 35 year old, moldy pair of jungle boots I had hanging from the rafters inna basement? You know the ones with the dogshit on the heel? The ones that you claim stink worse than the Eagles' locker room after a hot August mini-camp?)

Anyway, don't delay! Registration is in progress, (I think) and the whole thing kicks off right after Christmas. For more info, or I should say, the correct info, see meldonna at Baja Canada, Seattle!

NY Times: Rail Tunnels Vulnerable - NEWS - US NATIONAL - Comcast.net:

"NY Times: Rail Tunnels Vulnerable
By Associated Press

NEW YORK - A carry-on bomb could flood portions of commuter train tunnels between New York and New Jersey in a matter of hours, The New York Times reported."

"Concerns have long been raised about potential terrorist attacks on tunnels connecting to New York City. In July, authorities said they had thwarted a suicide-bomb plot involving the PATH tunnels."

I used to live in Hoboken, New Jersey. Every morning and every afternoon I used the PATH system. Now that I live in Philly, I use either the Lincoln Tunnel, (pictured above) or the Holland Tunnel and often the Queens Mid-town Tunnel.

Mornings aren't bad. It's so early when I go through there isn't much traffic and I breeze through in few minutes.

Afternoons are brutal. It can take up to 30 minutes to get through. God forbid there is a fender bender or someone breaks down. After two years of this afternoon commute I now prefer to go "overland" through Brooklyn and Staten Island. It's longer, but far safer.

Right after 9/11, all of the tunnels were guarded by National Guardsmen and Army troops with locked and loaded M-16's. Every truck was inspected completely. It added time to the commute, but hey, who's complaining? Look at that picture and imagine it filled with busses and cars when a bomb goes off.

Now, there is no-one guarding the tunnels anymore. Except for the Mid-town, which has a few Uniformed Transit Officers randomly checking trucks.

People who live and/or work in New York City know that it is only a matter of time. We know they are coming again. We know more of us will die. We just wish our Government was as serious about protecting us as the enemy is about killing us. And the only thing we hear from Pres-idiot Bush is "keep shopping!"

Marines Charged in Iraqi Civilian Deaths - NEWS - US NATIONAL - Comcast.net

Marines Charged in Iraqi Civilian Deaths - NEWS - US NATIONAL - Comcast.net:

By THOMAS WATKINS, Associated Press Writer

"CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - With eight Marines charged in connection with the deaths of 24 Iraqi civilians, the Marine Corps sent a clear message to its officers: They will be held accountable for the actions of their subordinates.

In the biggest U.S. criminal case involving civilian deaths to come out of the Iraq war, four of the Marines _ all enlisted men _ were charged Thursday with unpremeditated murder.

But the remaining four Marines in the case are officers, the highest ranking among them a lieutenant colonel. They were charged with dereliction of duty for failing to report or properly investigate the killings in the Iraqi town of Haditha last year."

I don't know what happened here. I don't know if these men are guilty or not. I don't know much, granted.

I do know that there was a cover-up. While I applaud the fact that Officers are being taken to task for this, and not just enlisted men, I do not believe the investigation will go far enough up the chain of command. It needs to go all the way to the top. To the clown in the picture.

I tried to remember my own training over 30 years ago. We have all seen television shows where police are training. Everyone has seen the excercise where police officers have to differentiate between pop-up targets of civilians and bad guys. They are supposed to react quickly, shooting the bad guys and well, not shooting the civilians. They are trained to defend life. Simply put, Marines are not. Asking Assault Troops to do a Police Officer's job is like asking the Bull to guard the China Shop.

Marines are taught to take life. So are Soldiers and Sailors and Airmen. The conditioning we receive hardens us to the loss of life of innocents. How else could an Air Force pilot drop a bomb, "smart" or otherwise, on a target that he knows may have civilian occupants as well as hostiles. A certain amount of civilian deaths is "acceptable". The military calls this "collateral damage". The difference here is that these men are accused of actively and knowingly seeking out civilians and killing them.

What has to be determined here is whether these civilians were killed in a "crossfire" as some of the accused Marines claim, or if, in fact, some of the "civilians had fired on them, as has also been claimed, or if the men in question just lost it and took their frustrations out on innocent people. Personally, I don't know. How do you tell the civilians from the hostiles in an environment where you don't know who the enemy is until he shoots at you?

Like I've said over and over...I don't know. What I do know is that this madness has gone on long enough. Our young people are caught in the middle of a civil war with no clear enemy and no defined objective other than to "move forward", not "cut and run" and "get the job done". So I'm willing to wait and see what happens and I'm trying to give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

It's only going to get worse. Adding more troops to the madness will only make it much worse. It's time to bring our young people home.

The Final Inspection

The Marine stood and faced her God

Which must always come to pass.

She hoped her shoes were shining

Just as brightly as her brass.

"Step forward now, oh, Devil-Dog,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?"

The Jarhead squared her shoulders... said,

"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,

'cause those of us who carry guns

Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays

And at times my talk was tough,

And sometimes I've been violent,

'cause the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny

That wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills just got too steep,

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at times I shook with fear,

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unsightly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here,

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fear."

"If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much,

So if you don't, I'll understand."

A silence fell all 'round the throne

Where Saints had often trod,

As the Marine awaited quietly,

The judgment of her God.

Step forward now, My Fine Marine,

You've borne your burdens well,

Walk your post on Heaven's streets,

You've served your time in Hell.

Sleep in Peace, Sister.

Iraq Troop Buildup Idea Worries Generals - NEWS - Comcast.net

Iraq Troop Buildup Idea Worries Generals - NEWS - Comcast.net:

"Iraq Troop Buildup Idea Worries Generals
By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - A White House laboring to find a new approach in Iraq said Tuesday it is considering sending more U.S. troops, an option that worries top generals because of its questionable payoff and potential backlash. President Bush said he is ready to boost the overall size of an American military overstretched by its efforts against worldwide terrorism."

Uh, wasn't it part of Rumsfeld's grand plan to scale back the military and turn it into a lean, mean green fighting machine, more suitable to fighting the little "brushfire conflicts" than major land operations?

Rumsfeld deserves a Pres-idiot Medal Of Freedom for fighting in Iraq with the "Army he had, not the Army he wished he had". In other words, the Army he built.

I have no confidence that George W. Bush will start listening to his Generals any time soon. He never has before.

Folks, we are coming to a critical turning point in the history of the United States. If Bush won't listen to the polls, or the elections, or his own Generals, then it's time to make those in Washington and the Pentagon to listen to the people.

What I am proposing may be the first large scale operation undertaken by The American Patriot Institute and it's no joke.

I am calling for a massive demonstration in Washington, D.C. on the day Bush finally announces his new plan to "move forward" in Iraq. I'm talking about something that hasn't been seen in this country since the late '60's, early '70's. Hundreds of thousands of Veterans, working Americans and concerned citizens converging on the capitol to voice our displeasure with the current Administration.

I realize that this will take a lot of work, but the machinery is already in place here in the blogosphere. All we have to do is implement it.

It's our country, it's our White House, let's take it back.

I Am An Asshole

I recently had a post up entitled Fuck The South. I originally posted it in the heated days of extreme disappointment following the re-election of Smirky the Chimp in 2004. Well, it's now 2006 and I am an Asshole.

Frankly, the post was offensive to many, many good folks who live in the South and are working hard to change things there.

One of these individuals is Meldonna, from Baja Canada, Seattle. This young Lady has class. On top of that she's on our side and I almost alienated her...almost, but she has way more class than I do so she gave me the benefit of the doubt and I am grateful.

The post is gone. It will remain gone. My weak ass apology to this fine young Lady is still up so you can see what a jerk I can be.

This, however, is from the heart, with no caveats.

I apologize to you Meldonna, and all the other good, hard-working folks who are also our Brothers and Sisters and who, like us, are working hard to save our country.

An Apology..of sorts...

I recently ran across a lovely young lady at spadoman's who goes by the name of meldonna. I clicked on her link and found myself at her place where I read this post. Now most of my readers know that I don't always act in good taste, but then, I tend to follow Larry Flint's philosophy, "We don't want readers with good taste, we want readers who taste good!" (Uh, that's a joke, 'kay?)

So I posted a link to "Fuck The South". It was meant to be humorous, but, well...apparently I offended the young lady. Her response can be found here.

This is my response:

Good answer, meldonna. You have my apologies. Honestly, I wasn't looking for a scrap. That was originally posted on Nov. 11, 2004, 5 days after many of us believe Bush stole his second Presidential Election, and yes, it is bitter. Don't know if you saw the post I have with all the Republi-con Conventioneers running around NYC with little Purple Heart band-aids on their smirking faces, thinking they were dissing Kerry, while in truth they were dissing every Veteran who ever earned a Purple Heart as well as the Medal itself. I can't tell you how many of them flipped me off or shouted obscenities at me in their charming Southern accents as I sat at traffic lights because I had an Impeach Bush bumper sticker on my truck. Guess they chose to ignore the United States Marine Corps bumper sticker right above it.

For years we on the Left have had to put up with insults and worse from those on the Right. I have been called a traitor by Chickenhawks who never wore the uniform themselves and never will. Nor will their children in this current Bush fiasco in Iraq. I firmly supported going into Afghanistan to get Bin Fergotten and so did most of us on the Left, but when Bush manufactured his can't wait "strategy" to invade Iraq, he lost us. And even tho he was wrong to go in there, some of us still supported him until it became obvious that he had no clue about winning "hearts & minds".

So you see, there is no love lost here for the Right, who, now that they have had their asses kicked and may well lose the White House in '08, are suddenly talking about "working together", being "bi-partisan", letting bygones be bygones and "moving forward". Fuck 'em! They have done so much damage to our country and our Constitution that it will take years to undo it all. Not to mention the damage they have inflicted on the American working family, (but I will go into that at a later date at my place).

At any rate, the post was not meant to be a personal attack against you and I apologize if it was taken that way.

Garcia rallies from mistakes, leads Eagles to third straight win

By LES BOWEN
bowenl@phillynews.com

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Marty Mornhinweg wouldn't divulge what he said to Jeff Garcia after the Eagles' quarterback took an unfortunate taunting penalty, then threw an even more unfortunate interception two plays later. The pick led to a touchdown that gave the New York Giants a one-point lead, along with what seemed to be control of the game midway through the fourth quarter yesterday.
Mornhinweg said he knew what to expect from Garcia the next time he got the ball, though.
'He's a tough man. He's got great strength mentally and physically... he's pretty good in those situations,' the offensive coordinator said after Garcia led the Eagles on an eight-play, 80-yard drive that restored their lead, Garcia hitting Reggie Brown with a 19-yard, game-winning touchdown pass with 2 minutes, 57 seconds remaining.

Had a great day yesterday after all. Eagles won and so did I.

Got to see a friend of mine this afternoon and pick up a cool 200 clams!

Guest Editorial by the Marvelous 44Magster

Ladies & Gentlemen, the Marvelous 44magster offers her profiles of the members of the Rogues Gallery based on the pictures shown here!

Take it away Girlfren'!

Although Moderate has the eyes of a snake and looks like he has ice water in his veins - I do believe that Fixer is the one that is/could be a serial killer and the most dangerous.

Other than the fact that I know d and Scroff-------Fixer is the one I would most be afraid of!!! I base this on the fact that I have known a lot of guys in Kensington who looked liked him and they were no one to fu.. with.

Moderate immediately stood out because of his scary eyes which are very devious and this makes him hard to read. Moderate, however, is the guy I would want on the sneaky rifle covering my back.

Deuddersun and Scroff -- I can only speak from what I know, which is they are both psychopaths!!! no further comment...For Real...

Bulldog has psycho eyes but I think he has a somewhat level head, for what that is worth, but that is questionable. d, I know, has partied with Bulldog and from what I have heard about Bulldog, he can handle himself in any situation, and when we have to knuckle up - he is the man.

Gordon is difficult. He has far away eyes and that is unsettling. ..He reminds me of Clark Kent, sweet looking on the outside but extremely dangerous on the inside.

All in all I would not want to encounter any of you guys under any circumstances if I were on the other side. (Other than my d. who I have to, because I love the shithead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

FINALLY...Some Good News...

When I woke up this morning around 0400 I was feelin' pretty good - then I switched on HBO and watched Unknown Soldier.

The intimate portrait of a family's suffering through the loss of a loved one in Viet Nam left me, well, very sad, because I know that there is nothing anyone can do for the "Other Casualties of War". Young John Hulmes documentary of his search to know his Father made such an impression on me that I had to post on it. That post is right below this one.

When I completed my post and my second cup of Joe I made my usual morning rounds of the Blogosphere, beginning with Any Which Way where I read about the stupid Kris-gin Konservatives blathering on about a "War On Christmas". It occurred to me that the word "war" is too often used to mean something totally different, like a philosophical difference or an athletic event. I had to wonder just how many of these "Kris-gin Sojers" had ever really seen "war", or even served in the Armed Forces, for that matter.

Next up was my pal Bulldog.

Whew! PTSD and how it is affecting his own brothers! The cloud over my head darkened.

Then Moderateman.

Then Alternate Brain.

At this point the "cloud" was a roiling thunderhead. The anger inside me was reaching the boiling point and I almost went for a triple Johnnie Black, just to settle me down. Instead, I sparked up a bowl, closed my eyes and found a small quiet spot inside me where I know I am safe from myself.

Unable to even comment, I figgered I'd just check my site stats and then bag it for a while, go for a walk with my dog, enjoy a beautiful Sunday morning before the Eagles/Giants football game this afterrnoon.

It was there that I saw that Technobabe had visited and I clicked on the link to her site, Technobabe's Adventures, and found this post, "Shopping At Sears".

That brought me around. I suddenly realized that there were folks who did really give a shit. That hope was not lost. That, to some, "Support Our Troops" really does mean more than a magnetic ribbon. Once again I could feel the warmth of the sun. The storm had passed.

So do yourself two little favors this morning.

Read the above post at Technobabe's.

And shop at Sears.

I'm going for a walk with my dog.

Thanks Technobabe.

Merry Christmas! May Santa bring you gifts and glad tidings!

Party on Santa Dude!

Second Lieutenant

United States Marine Corps
04 August 1946 - 30 June 1969
Pawtucket, Rhode Island

On June 30, 1969, 2nd Lt. Jack Hulme was killed in Vietnam, having never met his only child.
Thirty years later, Jack’s son, John, finally seeks out what happened to his Father and who he really was...

Director's Statement
John Hulme

I saw this film this morning on HBO and I still can't dry my eyes. Too often the "other" casualties of war are forgotten. The families and friends of those who are lost, those whose lives have been destroyed, those who must carry on.

Thirty-seven years after he was KIA, Lt. Hulmes' widow is still crying, his son is still trying to "know" his Father. For those who have suffered a loss such as this, the pain never ends.

I have included a link to young John's website, "Unknown Soldier" , and another to his Director's Diary. There, you can find a schedule of screenings on HBO. DVD's are also available through these sites for any who don't have HBO or who wish to own a copy of the film.

As you watch the film, remember, he is but one of thousands. His story has been and is being played out for tens of thousands of grieving loved ones.

Lt. Hulme was and is our Brother.
