No More War? Start Here!

Dear VoteVets.org Supporter,

We hope you and your loved ones had a healthy and happy Holiday season. Unfortunately, the joyous time hasn't lasted long, as the president has decided to do what the American people, the new Congress, and even many of our commanders on the ground in Iraq do not want - escalate the war in Iraq.

We must act now.

Please take a moment to read two very important pieces on this issue, describing why an escalation of the war is potentially very dangerous. First, this piece by VoteVets.org advisory board member, former General Wesley Clark. General Clark clearly lays out all the reasons why the president's escalation won't help secure Iraq and transition the US out. Second, please read this piece that I penned on why the proposed boost, along with other changes in Iraq, could signal the intention to launch an attack on Iran, and further destabilize the region, threatening US security.

There is something we can do.

Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy is proposing legislation that would require authorization from Congress before the president could send more troops to Iraq. It is essential that his bill gain a veto-proof majority in Congress. To ensure that margin, we're drafting you into our online Army.

Here are your marching orders:

  • 1) On a piece of paper, write out the names, phone numbers, and emails of five friends and family who will join you in opposing the Bush escalation.
  • 2) Forward this email on to each of them, with a note telling them to sign up at VoteVets.org, call their Senators and Congressman, demanding they support the Kennedy bill, and to recruit five of their friends to do the same. The Capitol switchboard number is 202-224-3121.
  • 3) Place a follow-up call to each of the people on your list, to make sure they acted. When you're sure they did, check their name off on your list.
  • 4) Call your Senator and Congressman and demand they support the Kennedy bill to require authorization before any troop escalation in Iraq. Again, the Capitol switchboard number is 202-224-3121.

Together, we can bring some sanity and responsibility to U.S. military policy, and really support the troops. Let's get to work.

Thank you for supporting the Voice of the 21st Century American Patriot.

Sincerely,

Jon Soltz
