Short Lesson In Blogs...

I recently noticed that one individual who was searching John Kerry's Military Record visited my little blog 7 or 8 times looking for the info a search engine told him/her was here. I can only surmise that since the desired piece didn't pop right up on the page, the searcher went back to the search engine and tried again...and again...and again.

Unlike a "Web-site", a "blog" generally only has one page. Therefore, if you don't see what you are looking for right away, Scroll Down! If you still don't see it, check the archives, (although most search engines will get the time frame right, you still may have to scroll to find it). If you STILL don't see it, it may have been deleted by the blog owner. Hope this is helpful to new searchers!

Happy hunting!

On Another Note

As you may have noticed, my blogging has dropped off a cliff. The good news is that the job goes well and will afford me the luxury of dedicating some serious time to this endeavor at some point in the future. Hang in there, I have a lot of things planned! I just hope they're still relevant when I have the time to post them.

From Russia...With Love

Philadelphia Flyers' Danny Markov (55) of Russia celebrates his game-winning goal against the New Jersey Devils in the third period of their first-round NHL playoffs series game Saturday, April 17, 2004, in Philadelphia. The Flyers won the series, 4-1, with a 3-1 win. Others with Markov are Jeremy Roenick (97) and Tony Amonte (11). (Photo by Rusty Kennedy, AP, courtesy of Yahoo Sports)

Revenge is soooooooooo sweet! Four years ago the New Jersey Devils overcame a three games to one deficit to rally and beat the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Play-offs.

Saturday, amidst much speculation by the media that New Jersey could repeat and once again overcome being down three games to one, Danny Markov blasted a slapshot past Devil's Goalie, Martin Brodeur and propelled the Philadelphia Flyers to round two, exorcising the Ghosts of Season's Past and sending the New Jersey Devil's to the golf course in the First Round.

Go Flyers!

UPDATE

It has just been reported that New Jersey Devil's Coach, Pat Burns, who missed two practices last week for unknown reasons, has colon cancer. I am sure that I am joined by All Flyer's Fans and fans of Hockey everywhere in wishing Pat and his family the best. Let's all hope for a speedy recovery.

Get well, Pat. We look forward to continuing the rivalry next year with you at the helm of the Devils.

Any Questions?

Suppose They Gave A War and Nobody Came?

When The "Coalition of The Willing" first breezed through Iraq and into Baghdad I wrote a post at Any Which Way which dealt with the ease of the Coaliton's invasion. I wondered where the Iraqi military had gone. Why was resistance so light? (Relatively speaking.) Where was the vaunted Republican Guard? Gee, I wondered, could they have simply removed their unifroms and gone home?

From the looks of things in Iraq today, I may have been right, but, why would they have abandoned the battlefield? Could it be, as some have suggested, that in truth they hated Saddam so much they simply refused to fight for him? Perhaps.

I have another theory. After the shellacking they took in the First Gulf War maybe they knew they couldn't beat us in the conventional military sense, so why die in a fruitless effort to beat back the invading forces? Why not just go home, let the Coalition in, and bide your time waiting for the appropriate moment to strike. Is it just a coincidence that the simultaneous uprisings against Coalition Forces came a year to the day those same forces toppled the statue of Saddam? I'm not saying they loved their former leader, (the fact that he was captured dirty, disheveled, disgraced and alone in a rat hole is testament to the fact that many didn't), but they do love their country and it is looking to many Iraqi's like they have merely had one evil leader exchanged for another, the Coalition Provisional Authority.

The recent, coordinated "uprisings" have all the earmarkings of well planned, military operations. It seems the Iraqi's have finally decided to show up for the War.

I have deviated from my usual format of posting original material to provide two articles following this post, which I believe lend credence to my position. While I hate George Bush for getting us into this useless, baseless war, I support our fighting men and women who are bearing the brunt of Bush's Folly. I only hope that the United States moves quickly to involve the United Nations in a meaningful way and takes whatever steps are necessary to gain some real support from our former allies to set up a true democracy in Iraq and to ease the military burden we now shoulder the weight of. This would go far to save many American lives and illustrate to the Arab World that we are sincere in our efforts and not merely colonialists. This would also free up valuable military resources that could be better used in Afghanistan finishing the real job at hand, the elimination of Bin Laden and Al Queda.

Uprisings in Iraq call for strategic U.S. adjustments

From USATODAY.com ,Wed Apr 14, 7:36 AM ET

A year after the fall of Baghdad, coalition forces are facing a spring surprise: a growing insurgency by Sunni and Shiite militias in several Iraqi cities. The violence has claimed the lives of at least 80 U.S. and allied troops since April 1. Compounding matters, Iraqi groups have begun kidnapping foreigners, including an American contractor. This scenario of Iraqis using guerrilla tactics against coalition forces is precisely what the U.S. feared most a year ago.

Refugees tell of rising anger in Fallujah

From The Christian Science Monitor, April 14th 2004.

Refugees tell of rising anger in Fallujah

A fragile, four-day cease-fire still in place as of Tuesday.

By Christina Asquith | Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor

BAGHDAD – With a US Apache helicopter hovering above, Kadher Fudella took her children and began to run. She did not stop until she reached the highway, along with scores of other refugees, flagging down cars headed to Baghdad.
"My children tried to run away and the helicopters chased them," says Ms. Fudella, breaking into tears. "Families were running through the streets.... Windows were broken, and many, many people were dead."

While I do not for a minute believe that United States Marines are intentionally targeting civilians, I realize that in this instance what you or I think is not important. It is what the Iraqi's think that matters here, and if they believe these reports then in their minds we are worse than Saddam Hussiem. (At least he was an Iraqi. We on the other hand are rapidly turning from "Liberators" to "Foriegn Occupiers and Oppressors".) Should this belief spread, and all indications are that this is happening, (in spite of George Bush's declarations to the contrary), we could face a nationwide insurrection we are ill-prepared to handle. Yet once again, Nero fiddles while Rome burns.

My Marine Corps Color Is Red...

Some seventeen United States Marines have made the Ultimate Sacrifice in the last three days in fierce fighting in Iraq...up to twelve of these Brave young men today alone.

I do not have the words...

Fellow Marines who share my sorrow will know the second line of the couplet used in the title and understand. Other's who feel the loss should know that this is the price every Marine, every Soldier, Sailor or Air Force Pilot is willing to pay. Grieve not too long, but honor their sacrifice and cherish their memories.

The debt shall be repayed tenfold.

Once. Forever.

Semper fidelis.

The Final Inspection

The Marine stood and faced his God
Which must always come to
pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his
brass.

Step forward now, oh, Devil-Dog,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been
true?

The Jarhead squared his shoulders... said, "No, Lord,
I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a
saint.

I've had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was
tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully
rough.

But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep,

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."

A silence fell all 'round the throne
Where Saints had
often trod,
As the Marine waited quietly,
For the judgment of his
God.

Step forward now, My Fine Marine,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk your post on Heaven's streets,
You've served your time in Hell.

Missing Links?

Oh, lest anyone think I've deleted their links, they are still there, just waaaaaaaaaay down at the bottom of the page. I think this may be due to a formatting error. In other words, the pic of Midtown Manhatten may be too big, thus splitting the link column in two. I'll ask scroff to check this out for me since he's my guru and has full access here. So please be patient, this foopah will be corrected soon.

Thanks,
