What A Weekend!

We had quite a few plans for this past weekend. None of them included this.

Friday night I got a phone call from damagster. She was upset and shaken, (but not crying, magster is a tough little tomato). It seems she had been waiting to make a left turn onto I-95, on her way home from work, when a Lexus, attempting to beat an SUV, hit her. The oncoming lanes were reduced at that point, from two lanes to one, due to roadwork and this idiot decided he had to get there first. He wasn't even close.

I'm not going to say anymore about this due to legal ramifications, but, fortunately, no-one was seriously injured, (Mags is very sore, with a huge bruise where her shoulder harness was, a cut leg and a fat lip). I spent Saturday taking pictures like the one above and getting Police reports, etc.

So now we have to decide what to do about another car. We still have my Dodge Ram pick-up and a little Mitsubishi puddle-jumper, but that car was Mag's baby. I have wanted to get her a new car for some time, but she loved that one, so I redid it for her to the tune of $8,000. For the record it's a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with a new engine, paint job, vinyl roof, sound system, etc., etc. Monday I'm having it towed to a buddy's body shop and if the frame isn't bent, I'll get it rebuilt again. Hey, it's gonna cost me either way, buy a new one or fix the old one. Since she loves this car so much, well...

On the other hand, if it can't be made right, I kinda like the Chrysler Crossfire or the Caddy CTS-V, but it's not up to me, it's up to my Lady. Either way, we'll be allright.

New Links!!!!!!!!!

Well, my little self-imposed holiday is about to come to an end. Back to work next Wednesday! So, instead of just laying around, uh, contemplating, I decided to update my links.

First is a fellow Marine who, although no longer allowed to use power tools, still wields a mighty pen! With a love of boobies of all shapes, ages and sizes and an admirable appreciation for Jerry Lee Lewis, his blog is an enjoyable daily read for me as well as an educational experience. With that being said I give you The Moderate Man!

Right wingers beware! The man behind the blog is a United States Marine Corps Combat Vet who will rip off your head and shit down your neck!

Next is Mccs 1977. I am not as familiar with this site as I am of The Moderate Man. I came across it from a comment posted here under my tribute to Paul Gill. The site intrigued me, so I am including it.

The last two for today are Fixer & Gordon and The Alternate Brain, both good reads. Do yourself a favor and give them a look. You won't be sorry.

Well, that about sums it up. Gotta go finish working on my soil pipe so I can hit my other pipe and get back to contemplating before the cruel interruption of "work" invades my otherwise tranquill lifestyle again.

Let's Keep The Left Right!!


VFW member at a speech given by George W. Bush to the Veterans of Foreign Wars expresses his opinion of what he is hearing from the Commander In Chief.













In a recent post at Any Which Way, mybrother, scroff, featured a new Televison Ad attacking Sen. George Allen, Republican, of Virginia, by a new Left-leaning Veterans group, VoteVets.org.

The ad claims that Sen. Allen voted against giving our troops in Iraq the new body armor and states that our troops were given Viet Nam Era body armor instead. This point is driven home graphically when two sets of body armor, one, supposedly from the Viet Nam era and the other, modern, are shot with an AK-47 at a range of about 50 feet. When the armor is ripped open, the mannequin with the old body armor shows three bullet wounds, the modern armor does not, thus implying that Sen. Allen is somehow responsible for American casualties in Iraq. Great ad.

Except for one thing - it isn't true.

In an update, featured prominently on the Front Page of Any Which Way, scroff exposes this ad and expresses his disgust at the tactics being employed in it. Why is this important?

The most valuable weapon we have against the Neo-cons is the truth. Unlike most on the Right, who will vehemently defend the lies being handed them by our current administration, in spite of hard facts to the contrary, we on the Left must surely take the higher ground. Not only must we expose the lies of this administration and it's supporters, it is our duty to ensure that what we say and do is right and true.

Good job, Bro.

Let's all work to make sure no one shows up at one of our events wearing "Bullshit Protectors"!

Never one to leave any stone unturned, scroff wrote to VoteVets.org, questioning the veracity of their ad. Seems they were right all along! I have to wonder how many Right-leaning bloggers would go through all this trouble to verify a post!

When Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert unleashed his navy and air force on Lebanon, accusing that tiny nation of an "act of war," the last pillar of Bush's Middle East policy collapsed.

First came capitulation on the Bush Doctrine, as Pyongyang and Tehran defied Bush's dictum: The world's worst regimes will not be allowed to acquire the world's worst weapons. Then came suspension of the democracy crusade as Islamic militants exploited free elections to advance to power and office in Egypt, Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, Iraq and Iran.

Now, Israel's rampage against a defenseless Lebanon – smashing airport runways, fuel tanks, power plants, gas stations, lighthouses, bridges, roads and the occasional refugee convoy – has exposed Bush's folly in subcontracting U.S. policy out to Tel Aviv, thus making Israel the custodian of our reputation and interests in the Middle East.

The Lebanon that Israel, with Bush's blessing, is smashing up has a pro-American government, heretofore considered a shining example of his democracy crusade. Yet, asked in St. Petersburg if he would urge Israel to use restraint in its airstrikes, Bush sounded less like the leader of the Free World than some bellicose city councilman from Brooklyn Heights.

What Israel is up to was described by its army chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz, when he threatened to "turn back the clock in Lebanon 20 years."

Olmert seized upon Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers to unleash the IDF in a pre-planned attack to make the Lebanese people suffer until the Lebanese government disarms Hezbollah, a task the Israeli army could not accomplish in 18 years of occupation.

Israel is doing the same to the Palestinians. To punish these people for the crime of electing Hamas, Olmert imposed an economic blockade of Gaza and the West Bank and withheld the $50 million in monthly tax and customs receipts due the Palestinians.

Then, Israel instructed the United States to terminate all aid to the Palestinian Authority, though Bush himself had called for the elections and for the participation of Hamas. Our Crawford cowboy meekly complied.

The predictable result: Fatah and Hamas fell to fratricidal fighting, and Hamas militants began launching Qassam rockets over the fence from Gaza into Israel. Hamas then tunneled into Israel, killed two soldiers, captured one, took him back into Gaza and demanded a prisoner exchange.

Israel's response was to abduct half of the Palestinian cabinet and parliament and blow up a $50 million U.S.-insured power plant. That cut off electricity for half a million Palestinians. Their food spoiled, their water could not be purified, and their families sweltered in the summer heat of the Gaza desert. One family of seven was wiped out on a beach by what the IDF assures us was an errant artillery shell.

Let it be said: Israel has a right to defend herself, a right to counter-attack against Hezbollah and Hamas, a right to clean out bases from which Katyusha or Qassam rockets are being fired and a right to occupy land from which attacks are mounted on her people.

But what Israel is doing is imposing deliberate suffering on civilians, collective punishment on innocent people, to force them to do something they are powerless to do: disarm the gunmen among them. Such a policy violates international law and comports neither with our values nor our interests. It is un-American and un-Christian.

But where are the Christians? Why is Pope Benedict virtually alone among Christian leaders to have spoken out against what is being done to Lebanese Christians and Muslims?

When al-Qaida captured two U.S. soldiers and barbarically butchered them, the U.S. Army did not smash power plants across the Sunni Triangle. Why then is Bush not only silent but openly supportive when Israelis do this?

Democrats attack Bush for crimes of which he is not guilty, including Haditha and Abu Ghraib. Why are they, too, silent when Israel pursues a conscious policy of collective punishment of innocent peoples?

Britain's diplomatic goal in two world wars was to bring the naive cousins in, to "pull their chestnuts out of the fire." Israel and her paid and pro-bono agents here appear determined to expand the Iraq war into Syria and Iran, and have America fight and finish all of Israel's enemies.

That Tel Aviv is maneuvering us to fight its wars is understandable. That Americans are ignorant of, or complicit in this, is deplorable.

Already, Bush is ranting about Syria being behind the Hezbollah capture of the Israeli soldiers.

But where is the proof?

Who is whispering in his ear? The same people who told him Iraq was maybe months away from an atom bomb, that an invasion would be a "cakewalk," that he would be Churchill, that U.S. troops would be greeted with candy and flowers, that democracy would break out across the region, that Palestinians and Israelis would then sit down and make peace?

How much must America pay for the education of this man?

Friends and fellow veterans, enough is enough. The neo-cons have stolen two Presidential elections. They are eroding our freedoms and tearing the Constitution apart. All in the name of the "War On Terrorism". They are infusing religion, their religion, into government, our government. This cannot, and must not be tolerated by all true patriots.

The Republican Party has been hijacked by religious extremists more dangerous to our freedom than any foreign terrorist. Barry Goldwater, perhaps the quintessential Conservative had this to say:

"When you say 'radical right' today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye."

Need I remind every or any veteran or active duty soldier of the oath they took, "...to protect the Constitution of The United States of America, against all enemies, foreign or domestic."?

There is no doubt in my mind that Bush and the neo-cons will do everything in their power to disrupt and usurp the 2006 mid-term elections. It is essential to their survival. Should this happen, I am calling on all true Americans to call for an end to this Administration, to fulfill their sacred duty under the Declaration of Independence and remove this government from power by any means necessary.

We must fill the streets of Washington with the flames of righteous indignation in the form of our presence. We must take back that which is ours. That which our fathers, our fore-fathers, and currently our brothers, sisters, husbands and wives so willingly gave and give their lives for.

Make no mistake, there is a war to be won. There are terrorists to be defeated. Heroes must step up and lay down their lives. But let us realize that this is truly a two front war. And the main enemy, the most insidious enemy, is embodied in George Bush and Dick Cheney and the Neo-cons posing as loyal Americans, smiling and lying while raping our country, our families, our future, for the benefit of themselves and their wealthy cronies.

It is, therefore, not only our right, but our obligation, to put right our government.

Finally...the Rock has come back to...

I damn near forgot how to operate this thing. None-the-less, having fortified myself with copious amounts of Budwiser ( King me, baby), Johnnie Black and other, uh, substances, I seem to have figgered the damn thing out again.

Been a Hell of a time, lemme tell ya. Work aside, it's been a little rough. First of all a blog-bud, Mad Mikey has been fighting for his life. For real. Now the guy's a Rightie, but he's a Rightie I've come to love and respect. I'm not going to go into it here, you can get all the details at his blog, Mad Mikey's. If you're doing well financially, you might want to help him out with a few sheckels, his family is really sufferring. Smash has set up a fund for him and his family to offset the enormous costs of his medical bills. Details can be found at Mikey's blog. This is a great opportunity for those of us on the Left to show those on the Right the compassion we claim to have for those in need. Ante up.

While this pales in comparison to Mikey's situation it was still hard to take. A week before Christmas I had to put our oldest cat down. She had brain cancer and about five years ago I spent a small fortune on her treatment. It worked...for a while. Anyway, daMagster was heartbroken. I got drunk. Cait, I know you can relate to this. To those of you who aren't animal lovers and think I'm a big wuss, go fuck yourselves.

Christmas itself was great! Spent it with mebrudder scroff, his lovely lady Ruthalla, deOleman and, ofcourse, daMagster. I got daMagster Sirius so she could listen to Howard and she got me a new sword, (which I proceeded to chop various things on the premises with, much to her shock and dismay...Hey! It's a fucking sword, what did you think I was gonna do with it?).

About two weeks after Christmas, deOleman ended up in the hospital. Won't go into it, but he gave us all a good scare. Three days after he came home, he had to go back. Well, he's home again, pissing vinegar and breathing fire so all is well on the homefront.

My birthday was January 12th. I spent it at the funeral of one of my best friends, George Hugle.

Like my mom and daMagster's mom, lung cancer killed him.
George was one of the finest men I have ever known. A superb craftsman, George helped initiate me into International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Motion Picture Studio Mechanics, Local 52, New York City. He was what we call one of my "Rabbis". He taught me as much about life as he did about scenery. I was able to see him the Saturday he died at his home in New Jersey. He looked bad, considering, but not near death. We talked, joked. He was lucid and fairly active. He told me he was ready. I asked him to save me a seat in Valhalla and he said, "No problem. Take your time, okay?". That was George. Cajones as big as...

George was a soldier in Viet Nam and when it was his turn, he took it with style and grace. I only hope that I can be half the man he was. I am working with his son Lou now and Friday we had lunch together at a great little Italian restaurant in Brooklyn, and reminicesed until we were both crying like little girls. I'm going to do a post on George so watch for it. I loved that man and I love his son. I look forward to the day I see him again.

Well, that pretty much sums up most of the shit. I'm working on a big picture now but I can't tell you anything about it. Hey, I'm having fun and making money. It doesn't get any better than that. daMagster is great. In fact, I gotta go cook dinner. She's upstairs prettyfying herself for me and I have two Porterhouse steaks ready for the grill, so, guess I'll talk to ya's later, 'kay?

Been a while. Dealin' with the "reel world". Working hard. Too much to talk about in one moment, but for starters, "The Interpreter", "The Forgotten", "Hide And Seek", "Johnny Zero", "Find Me Guilty", "The Producers", "Lady Luck" (or Lucky Lady or Whatever They settled on for a name), "Love Monkey", and now, my own little bizniz on the side.

Sorry guys. Didn't mean to "dis" ya. Just that the clock is running, the sand is almost through the hourglass, gotta make hay while that big beautiful sun is shinning. Kinda like running the 440 and seeing the finish line, gotta suck it up and sprint to the end.

No, I ain't dyin'. Hell, I ain't even sick. Just gettin' older. And in a world where making it and saving it is becoming almost impossible for the "Average Guy", realizing that I gotta make it count, now more than ever before. Hey, I got folks to take care of.

But I did and do miss you. So I'll try and catch up. But, as I said before somewhere here, the nature of this blog is going to change. Kind of a metamorphosis. Blogs are personal by nature, and this one is going to get more personal and less political. I'll save the political stuff for scroff and Ruthie at Any Which Way. Hell, they do a much better job of it anyway. (Now don't be mad at me if I do get political from time to time - some things just can't be ignored!)

Anyway, it feels good to post again. Even if I barely remember how to.

No More Wisecracks...

This may seem trivial to some, what with the tsunami disaster and the passing of Reggie White, but I knew Jerry Orbach.

I don't remember when it was that I met him. I know it was in the early years of Law & Order, '92...'93. I do remember that he was a great guy. He was the kind of guy you would like to have a beer with, regular, down to earth, with a great sense of humor.

I worked on Jerry's last show, Law & Order: Trial By Jury. Now that I know what he was suffering from it all seems so obvious. He looked gaunt. Tired. Stretched thin. But he never let on to us, the crew, that he was fighting for his life off the set. He was, to the end, what we in show biz like to call, a "real trouper". For Jerry, the phrase, " the show must go on", meant something.

I loved Jerry. I loved his character, Lenny Briscoe, the wisecracking New York City Detective. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I know it was the writers who gave him his lines, but I also know that they tailored their writing to fit Jerry.

Thanks Jerry. Thanks for making our lives a little brighter. Thanks for being a regular guy even though you were an extraordinary talent.
